Man Utd reportedly ‘appreciate’ Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as they are planning to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka in January or next summer.
Wan-Bissaka is one player who may be ruing the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the summer.
The defender was criticised last season and his deficiencies going forward have been exposed in recent months.
While the Englishman is struggling at United, Diogo Dalot is loving life as part of Ten Hag’s United side.
The Portugal international has a strong case to be United’s best performer this season as he has barely put a foot wrong.
Ten Hag puts a lot of demands on his full-backs so Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have had their fair share of game time on the left.
On the right, however, Dalot has been an ever-present as Wan-Bissaka has only played for four minutes this season in the Premier League.
After United’s 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, Ten Hag praised Dalot but appeared to take a dig at Wan-Bissaka.
“He [Dalot] has the breath to go up and down [the flank] so the development is really good, but I have to mention, I think a club like Man Utd need two good full-backs because we have a lot of games to cover.”
Wan-Bissaka was expected to leave United in the summer with a return to Crystal Palace on the cards.
He was not given permission to leave as United were unable to sign a replacement before the summer transfer window closed.
Man Utd were interested in Sergino Dest before he joined AC Milan on loan. Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that they are ‘considering’ Frimpong.
“Manchester United will explore the market for a new right-back, depending on the Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future,” Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
“One right-back Manchester United are considering is Jeremie Frimpong. However, many clubs are scouting the young defender. Bayer Leverkusen want to keep Frimpong until at least the summer, so a January move could be difficult.
“Behind the scenes, Ten Hag and Man Utd tried to find a solution for Wan-Bissaka in order to sign Sergino Dest on loan; but now it’s still early to mention full list, December could be the right time to decide.
“There’s been talk online of Manchester United scouting Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. Right now, there’s no news on Manchester United’s interest in Sulemana.
“Many scouts and clubs are following Sulemana but Manchester United recently invested big money on both Jadon Sancho and Antony.
“Nothing between Manchester United and Sulemana is imminent for now.”
You may be disappointed to hear that this is a different Frimpong to the former Arsenal maverick, but Jeremie would be a more worthwhile addition than his namesake.
The 21-year-old previously had a spell at Celtic but he has been with Bayer Leverkusen since the start of 2021.
He is one for the future but his 19 goal involvements in 64 outings show that he is more capable going forward than Wan-Bissaka.
Transfermarkt value Frimpong at £22.5m and he is under contract until 2025.
